First Responders Interoperability To Be Up By End Of '07

“In an effort to reach predetermined goals of enabling police and fire departments in multiple jurisdictions to communicate in real-time during a major incident, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff announced that 46 U.S. cities are planned to have interoperable communications in place by the end of 2007. DHS will assist the 46 U.S. cities, receiving grants through the Urban Area Security Initiative, in obtaining digital equipment and technical specifications to achieve interoperable communications by December 31, 2007. DHS plans to extend the initiative to all 50 states by December 31, 2008.” [Link]
