Welcome to the 2016 Presidential Transition Directory – This directory is designed to connect the people working on designing our next federal government with information and resources related to that effort. Serving both presidential candidates and the next President-elect, this site will be continually updated as new and updated information becomes available. Key resources include:
- The Plum Book – Every four years, just after the Presidential election, the “United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions,” commonly known as the Plum Book, is published, alternately, by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. This publication contains data (as of June 30, 2012) on over 8,000 Federal civil service leadership and support positions in the legislative and executive branches of the Federal Government that may be subject to noncompetitive appointment (e.g., positions such as agency heads and their immediate subordinates, policy executives and advisors, and aides who report to these officials). The duties of many such positions may involve advocacy of Administration policies and programs and the incumbents usually have a close and confidential working relationship with the agency head or other key officials.
- The Government Manual – As the official handbook of the Federal Government, the United States Government Manual provides comprehensive information on the agencies of the legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It also includes information on quasi-official agencies; international organizations in which the United States participates; and boards, commissions, and committees.
- Government Organizational Chart – this organizational chart shows the relationships and names of the federal government’s agencies and organizations spanning the legislative, judicial and executive branches
- Daily digest of government agency rules, proposed rules and public notices
