Beyond the Safeguards: Exploring the Security Risks of ChatGPT

6 major risks of using ChatGPT, according to a new study – Beyond the Safeguards: Exploring the Security Risks of ChatGPT. Erik DernerA and Kristina Batisti, 13 May 2023. arXiv:2305.08005

“The increasing popularity of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT has led to growing concerns about their safety, security risks, and ethical implications. This paper aims to provide an overview of the different types of security risks associated with ChatGPT, including malicious text and code generation, private data disclosure, fraudulent services, information gathering, and producing unethical content. We present an empirical study examining the effectiveness of Chat- GPT’s content filters and explore potential ways to bypass these safeguards, demonstrating the ethical implications and security risks that persist in LLMs even when protections are in place. Based on a qualitative analysis of the security implications, we discuss potential strategies to mitigate these risks and inform researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals about the complex security challenges posed by LLMs like ChatGPT. This study contributes to the ongoing discussion on the ethical and security implications of LLMs, underscoring the need for continued research in this area.”

Global temperatures set to reach new records in next five years

“Global temperatures are likely to surge to record levels in the next five years, fuelled by heat-trapping greenhouse gases and a naturally occurring El Niño event, according to a new update issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).  There is a 66% likelihood that the annual average near-surface global temperature between 2023 and 2027 will be… Continue Reading

How People Reacted to Greatest Inventions in History

Real Artificial – From Printing Press to Generative AI: “Since the dawn of history, humans have been reluctant to embrace new inventions, from the printing press to modern generative AI innovations. But eventually, they come around. In this post, we’ll explore some of the greatest inventions of all time that have, one by one, reshaped the… Continue Reading

Sparks of Artificial General Intelligence

Microsoft researchers published a study arguing that OpenAI’s GPT-4 AI system was progressing toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). The 155-page paper, entitled “Sparks of Artificial General Intelligence,” argues that GPT-4 is part of a new cohort of large language models (LLMs) “that exhibit more general intelligence than previous AI models.” Sparks of Artificial General Intelligence:… Continue Reading
