News release: “Treasury today released the attached report [Report to Congress Pursuant to Section 102 of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act 12/31/2008], required by section 102 of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act. As required by section 102(a), Treasury established the Asset Guarantee Program to provide guarantees for assets held by systemically significant financial institutions that face a high risk of losing market confidence due in large part to a portfolio of distressed or illiquid assets. This program would be utilized as needed to improve market confidence in a systemically significant institution and in financial markets broadly and it is not anticipated that the program will be made widely available.”
