World Bank: Shock waves: managing the Impacts of climate change on poverty – “Ending poverty and stabilizing climate change are the two objectives of this report. It is discussed how the two objectives should be addressed together. Climate change has an impact on eradicating poverty. Climate related shocks (natural disasters, spike in food prices, waterborne diseases and pests) not only impact the poor, but can also drag vulnerable people into poverty. The report shows that in the next fifteen years, climate change could put over 100 million people into extreme poverty if steps aren’t taken to decrease the impacts. From now until 2030, climate policies will have very little impact on decreasing the amount of global warming. The only option is to reduce vulnerability through both targeted adaptation investments and improved socioeconomic conditions.”
