Report on Katrina Waste from House Homeland Security Committee Democrats

Press release, August 28, 2006: “Nearly one year has passed since Hurricane Katrina’s landfall wrought havoc on the Gulf Coast, however, a new report issued by the Democratic Members on the U.S. House Committee Homeland Security finds that the nation is not much more prepared to effectively protect our communities and respond to catastrophic emergencies…The report details over $7 billion of contracts, much of which was wasted since Hurricane Katrina made landfall. This was largely the result of a lack of preparation and staffing shortages at FEMA; the same problems that still exist today.”
