- June 22, 2009 – Iran: U.S. Concerns and Policy Responses – “President Obama has said his Administration shares the goals of the previous Administration to contain Irans strategic capabilities and regional influence, but the Obama Administration has formulated approaches to achieve those goals that differ from those of its predecessorin particular through expanded direct diplomatic engagement with Iran.”
- June 22, 2009 – Iran’s 2009 Presidential Elections: “Regardless of the actual election results, the current stand-off between the government and opponents of the election outcome has caused observers to speculate about how this stalemate will be resolved, and what the outcome might mean for U.S. efforts to resolve the issue of Irans nuclear weapons program, its support for terrorism, and other national security concerns.”
- June 22, 2009 – Inherently Governmental Functions and Department of Defense Operations: “An inherently governmental function is one that, as a matter of law and policy, must be performed by federal government employees and cannot be contracted out because it is intimately related to the public interest. Concerned that the existence of multiple and/or inconsistent definitions of inherently governmental functions might be partly responsible for the alleged contracting out of inherently governmental functions by the Department of Defense (DOD) and other agencies, the 110th Congress enacted legislation (P.L. 110-417) requiring the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to develop a single consistent definition of inherently governmental functions.”
- June 19, 2009 – Climate Change: The Role of the U.S. Agriculture Sector and Congressional Action – “The agriculture sector is a source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which many scientists agree are contributing to observed climate change. Agriculture is also a sink for sequestering carbon, which might offset GHG emissions by capturing and storing carbon in agricultural soils. The two key types of GHG emissions associated with agricultural activities are methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O). Agricultural sources of CH4 emissions mostly occur as part of the natural digestive process of animals and manure management at livestock operations; sources of N2O emissions are associated with soil management and fertilizer use on croplands.”
