“The constitutional transfer of presidential power has been one of the hallmarks of American democracy—a peaceful ritual that provides continuity for our government as well as an opportunity for change and renewal. Yet with all the pomp and pageantry that comes with the swearing-in of a president, the ability of a new administration to effectively begin governing often rests on the preparation undertaken long before Inauguration Day. To ensure a smooth and safe transfer of power, the next administration and senior level appointees need to be ready to lead and manage our government effectively when they step into the office on day one. Through a four-pronged approach, the Partnership’s Ready to Govern® program will assist the 2016 presidential candidates in navigating the transition process, engage Congress and promote presidential transition reforms, develop management recommendations for the next administration to address our government’s operational challenges, and train new and seasoned political appointees to lead effectively in their new positions.”
