Quarterly Coal Distribution Report- 4th Quarter 2010

“The Quarterly Coal Distribution Report (QCDR) provides detailed U.S. domestic coal distribution data by coal origin State, coal destination State, mode of transportation, and consuming sector. Quarterly data for all years are preliminary and will be superseded by the release of the corresponding Annual Coal Distribution Report.o Highlights fr the 4th Quarter of 2010:

  • Total domestic coal distribution was an estimated 253.7 million short tons (mst) in 4th Quarter 2010. This value is 5 mst lower than the 3rd Quarter of 2010 and 18.8 mst greater than 4th Quarter of 2009 estimates.
  • Wyoming was the leading origin State of coal, accounting for about 113 mst of shipments delivered to 34 States. Texas was the leading destination State, receiving almost 27 mst of domestic coal.
  • Total shipments moved via Railroads, Truck, and River accounted for an estimated 71.3, 11.3, and 10.7 percent of the coal, respectively. Tramway, Conveyor, and Slurry Pipeline accounted for about 6.5 percent of coal shipments.
  • Electric Utilities and Independent Power Producers received approximately 92.8 percent of the total distribution.”
