Follow up to previous posting, WaPo reports US intel documents Russian geopol jubilation at Trump win, which included a wide ranging resources on this issue – see today Via Politico: “The Obama administration on Friday officially blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for directing a massive cyber assault against the U.S. election in an attempt to “undermine” the democratic process and “harm” Hillary Clinton’s presidential candidacy. “We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election,” said the report, which is a declassified version of a longer, classified document the CIA, FBI and NSA prepared at President Barack Obama’s request…Friday’s report, for the first time, directly accused Russia of handing over material from the DNC servers and Podesta’s account to WikiLeaks.”
“Assessing Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent US Elections” is a declassified version of a highly classified assessment that has been provided to the President and to recipients approved by the President.
- The Intelligence Community rarely can publicly reveal the full extent of its knowledge or the precise bases for its assessments, as the release of such information would reveal sensitive sources or methods and imperil the ability to collect critical foreign intelligence in the future.
- Thus, while the conclusions in the report are all reflected in the classified assessment, the declassified report does not and cannot include the full supporting information, including specific intelligence and sources and methods…”
