New health-care rules take effect January 1, 2011

WaPo: “The new rules are designed to help those caught in Medicare’s “doughnut hole,” offer seniors more preventative care, and limit how much of their customers’ money health-insurance companies can keep for overhead and profit. They all go into effect on Saturday, January 1, 2011.”

  • “The ultimate goal of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (the Innovation Center) is to produce better experiences of care and better health outcomes for all Americans and at lower costs through improvements. In partnership with the health care industry, the business community and of course, the patients and families who rely on the health care system day in and day out, the Innovation Center will ultimately scale new care and payment models that improve and sustain the Medicare and Medicaid/CHIP programs for our beneficiaries and ultimately the healthcare system at large. This is an enormous, challenging and exciting opportunity for CMS. But, we cannot do it alone. There is no way we will do this right or do this well without your suggestions and without your support. Read the Federal Register Notice establishing the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.”
