Long-Term Implications of the Department of Defense's Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Submission

CBO: Long-Term Implications of the Department of Defense’s Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Submission, October 14, 2009. Testimony before the Committee on the Budget, U.S. House of Representatives

  • CBO projects that carrying out the plans proposed in the President’s 2010 budget request excluding overseas contingency operations (in general, overseas military operations against hostile forces—currently consisting of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and military actions elsewhere to combat terrorism) would require defense resources averaging $567 billion annually (in constant 2010 dollars) from 2011 to 2028. That amount is about 6 percent more than the $534 billion in total obligational authority (TOA) requested by the Administration in its regular 2010 budget, again excluding overseas contingency operations.”
