News release: “U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, and U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) on Thursday announced new legislation to mitigate the negative impacts of the Supreme Courts decision that allowed unlimited corporate spending on elections. The Court, in its ruling in the Citizens United case last month, overturned a decades-old law banning political expenditures by corporate interests. Schumer and Van Hollens legislation would partly restore those limits by barring foreign corporations, government contractors and companies that have received government assistance from making political expenditures and also impose new disclosure and disclaimer requirements.” [Outline of legislation is included in this release.]
