DOJ Office of Justice Programs: “A contributing factor in British law enforcement’s recent success in thwarting terrorist plots is the ability of different agencies to share critical information in a timely manner. In the aftermath of terrorist bombings in London in July, police forces across the United Kingdom went live with the Violent and Sex Offenders Register (ViSOR) that allows them to share a wide range of information on the country’s most dangerous violent terrorists and criminals. Built by the Police Information Technology Organization, ViSOR provides online, for the first time, complete and up-to-date information on the country’s most dangerous offenders, including a photographic library of offenders over time, distinguishing marks and tattoos, and a powerful search and retrieval capability for police in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.”
