Press release: “The nation’s governors teamed with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) to bring state concerns about REAL ID to the attention of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). According to a joint analysis by NGA, NCSL and AAMVA, the statute in its current form will have a wide-reaching impact on citizens and states. The analysis, released April 26, provides a detailed summary of the issues raised by the statute, critical concerns of states, recommendations for effective implementation and identification of federal actions required to facilitate implementation. States remain committed to increasing the security and integrity of their state drivers license and identification card processes and look forward to working with DHS and Congress to establish reasonable and workable regulations to implement the objectives of REAL ID.”
