This December 30 letter from the William T. Woods, GAO’s Director of Acqusitions and Sourcing Management, to the Director, Office of Management and Budget, is titled Reliability of Federal Procurement Database. According to a GAO investigation, the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) is “inaccurate and incomplete,” and there are “sufficient problems to warrant concern about the current reliability of FPDS information.” This review revealed errors in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Plans are underway to implement the FPDS Next Generation system, which is anticipated will eliminate many of the errors that result from the current system.
