View past, present, and future sea level rise and related flood impacts for the coastlines of the United States. Select a state and location or search by region. The Federal Government delivers essential science and services to help our nation understand and address the challenges that sea level rise poses for coastal communities. Through interagency collaboration and carrying out individual agency missions, the Federal Government brings together a diverse range of capabilities needed to build a resilient coastal future. Ongoing efforts include:
- Tracking sea level change, including water-level measurements and observations that support marine navigation, emergency response, and scientific research;
- Understanding future change through next-generation research to predict and project coastal sea levels, flood extents, and associated impacts;
- Supporting decisions through tools and technical assistance, as well as communities of practice that engage people in exploring and addressing the impacts of sea level rise in their communities;
- Investing in climate-ready federal services and infrastructure by adapting agency policies and federal facilities, lands, and waters to sea level rise and changing coastal risks;
- Building resilient coastal communities through direct grants that support flood preparedness and nature-based solutions like living shorelines.
- A Whole-of-Government Effort: This initiative marks an exciting advance in federal efforts to address sea level change, representing a first-of-its-kind coordinated, interagency approach to producing and disseminating sea level science. This effort combines the expertise and resources of multiple agencies and will continue to evolve as the state of the science advances.
