- Electric Power Monthly August 2009 data Nov 13, 2009: “The latest EPM issue (November 2009) is now available on EIA’s Electricity page. Data are for August 2009, during which net generation in the United States dropped by 1.9 percent and consumption of coal for power generation was down by 9.1 percent compared to August 2008. The average retail price of electricity for August 2009 was 10.40 cents per kilowatthour (kWh), 0.2 percent lower than July 2009 when the average retail price of electricity was 10.42 cents per kWh, and 2.4 percent lower than August 2008, when the price was 10.66 cents per kWh.
