  • “The nuclear industry is expecting that by 2025 all commercial nuclear power plants in the United States will have operational ISFSIs at their sites. Currently, there are 104 operating nuclear reactors in the United States. This unprecedented growth in operational ISFSIs, coupled with an uncertainty surrounding the fate of a national high-level waste repository, brings NRC’s oversight of ISFSI [Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations] safety to the forefront. NRC’s oversight program for ISFSI safety is designed to prevent radiation-related deaths and illnesses and protect the environment.”
