Quartet of New Reports Document Federal Government Failures in Response to Katrina

From the Senate Democratic Policy Committee, a trio of reports related to the federal government response to Katrina, released on October 7, 2005:

  • Federal Response to Hurricane Katrina Falls Short: A Timeline of Key Events
  • Democrats Stand United in Support of Hurricane Katrina Survivors, Offer Plans to Provide Immediate Assistance
  • Republican Oversight Failures Demonstrate Need for Independent Commission to Investigate the Federal Response to Hurricane Katrina
  • And from the Committee on Government Reform Minority Office, also released on October 7, 2005:

  • HHS Press Release on Katrina Response Exaggerated and Misleading – “Rep. Waxman writes to HHS Secretary Leavitt seeking clarification of a confusing and misleading HHS press release. The release suggests that HHS’s provision of health and social services to Katrina survivors is good, but even the data included in the release itself suggest disappointing and inadequate Federal assistance.”
