“The Prime Minister has set out the Government’s approach to dealing with threats to national security, ranging from war and terrorism to climate change, disease and poverty. Speaking to MP’s in the House of Commons earlier today, Mr Brown said that the nature of the threats faced by the British people has changed “beyond all recognition”.”

The PM said that the security services will be increased to 4,000 personnel, twice the 2001 level. At the same time, strengthened global institutions and “the power of ideas and shared values” will have as much a part to play as the police and other services, he said.”
