“The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has released a new publication, NASCIOs Survey on Enterprise Data Center Consolidation in the States: Strategies and Business Justification (62 pages, PDF). A product of NASCIO’s Infrastructure and Services Committee, this survey report provides an overview of the challenges states indicated they are facing in considering and implementing enterprise information technology (IT) data center consolidation initiatives. In 2007, NASCIO asked state chief information officers (CIOs) to participate in a Web-based survey regarding their data center consolidation initiatives. The results of this survey serve as the baseline for this summary report. The online survey was completed by the state CIO or other members of the state IT function. Twenty-nine states responded to the survey through June 22, 2007, representing approximately 45.75 percent of the nations population. Participation included a wide distribution in geography, population, and budget. The responses reveal a strong trend towards states consolidating their computing assets into raised floor, secured, centralized data center facilities.”
