“Leading up to the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, the Kaiser Family Foundation has compiled an extensive set of resources to track the rebuilding efforts of the New Orleans area, with a special focus on the health care needs of residents. New audio interviews with Dr. Cathi Fontenot, medical director of the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans, and Clayton Williams, director of Urban Health Initiatives for the Louisiana Public Health Institute, focus on the current health care situation in New Orleans. Recent resources include: the results of the Kaiser Post-Katrina Baseline Survey, a major house-to-house survey that provides an overview of the ongoing struggles of the residents of New Orleans; an analysis based on the survey that examines the health care status of the adult population in the region; a survey brief profiling young adults living in the New Orleans area and their outlook for the future; August 2nd congressional testimony by Diane Rowland, executive vice president of the Foundation, on the health care challenges for New Orleans post-Katrina; and an issue brief looking at the uninsured in Louisiana.”
