GPO Makes Available Statute Compilations in USLM XML Format

“The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) and its legislative data partners in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have made Statute Compilations available in USLM XML format. This new format makes documents easier to use, read, and download. The public can access the compilations on GPO’s trusted digital repository govinfo, the one-stop site for information published by the Government. This project is the latest effort in the overall legislative branch strategy to move more legislative publications into USLM XML. “GPO is proud to make Statute Compilations available in a modern, easy-to-use format for Congress and the public,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “Converting these documents to a modern digital format will make these documents more accessible and facilitate applications we haven’t even thought of. It is an important step forward in our continuing mission of Keeping America Informed.” Statute Compilations are compilations of public laws that either do not appear in the U.S. Code or that have been classified to a title of the U.S. Code that has not been enacted into positive law. Each Statute Compilation incorporates the amendments made to the underlying statute since it was originally enacted. This collection encompasses select non-positive law statutes. Over 2,100 Statute Compilations are now currently available on govinfo.”
