ABA celebrates Black History Month with monthlong webinar series

“The American Bar Association Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice will celebrate Black History Month with a webinar series for various days in February, The Challenges that African Americans Face in the 21st Century, begins Wednesday, Feb. 3 and will run on Feb. 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 23, 25 and 26. The series delves into the civil rights and social justice issues that African Americans continue to face 53 years after the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Topics include environmental justice, reparations, COVID-19 testing and vaccine distribution, economic equity, climate change, voting rights, and racial disparities in criminal justice. The first session on Feb. 3 from 3-4 p.m. ET will examine the impact of structural and systemic racism on environmental justice. Topics include the ongoing water crisis in Flint, Mich.; the Dakota Access Pipeline; the destruction of tribal burial grounds for the southern border wall; COVID-19 in terms of higher pollution and infection rates among people of color.
